It was a Saturday and I found myself bumping around Sanpete Valley, taking pictures in the small communities.
[Note: Nearby Manti had been hit by a rare tornado (F2 in strength) on September 8th.]
I finally ended up in Freedom Utah, which was my destination anyway. Just north of town is the road to Maple Canyon, just a short drive to the west. The dirt road follows Maple Canyon for a short distance before veering off to the north to join the high country Skyline road system.
I parked as the road left the main Maple Canyon and started hiking west up Maple Canyon. The trail was steep in places but a very pleasant walk through the trees. Approximately .8 miles from the parking lot, I was able to locate Maple Canyon Arch in the south (left) cliffs.
I’m not used to finding natural arches in “conglomerate” rock formations and I’m not sure if it is a large Class ‘C’ arch or a small Class ‘B’ arch. Either way, it was worth visiting.
