Ok, who moved the bridge?

Written by Lynn Sessions on August 14th, 1993

David and I returned to Phipps Wash, just off of the Escalante Canyon near Escalante Utah, to try and find Maverick Bridge again. It turns out that the Calf Creek 7.5″ topographical map has it marked in the wrong location and we are trying to find the correct location.

While we searched, heavy rains far to the northwest caused the Escalante River to rise. By the time we headed back to our vehicle, crossing the river had become “challenging”. I just about got washed away but could only think about my camera equipment getting wet.

Oh ya… David made it across too.

  1. It didn’t help that I was totally turned around on that trip. The sun came up in the West the previous day.

Even after over 14 years, those two days still seem weird to me. — David S.
