On almost the last day of the year, I found myself with a whole day to myself. The Christmas bustle was over and the New Year had not yet detonated. Needing some time for myself, I jumped in my Explorer and headed south. Somehow I ended up in Arches National Park near Moab.
One thing that I hadn’t done for a while was to hike out to Delicate Arch and use my newest camera to capture some images. There was very little snow so the hiking would be easy. It was the middle of the week in the middle of winter so there shouldn’t be too many people… right?
Ya, right.
Besides the fact that the parking lot near the Wolfe Cabin was full, I was still hoping that there wouldn’t be many tourists on the trail. Oh well.
It felt good to stretch my legs after several months sitting in front of computer screens. Along with everyone else, I suppose.
The trial was a little slick on the north side of the rocks on the final approach. That obviously stopped no one.
It doesn’t matter how many times you see Delicate Arch, it is still quite a surprise to the senses. Kinda like seeing a miracle. It just leaves you in awe.
I managed to get a few decent pictures and just spend some time sitting in the sun before heading down the trail again.
Echo Arch and Frame Arch were still nearby.
Because of the approaching clouds, it was obvious that there wasn’t going to be an opportunity for a sunset so I headed down the trail and spent some time in several other areas of the park.
All in all, a very pleasant and relaxing day.
